The construction of the Neustrelitz Town Hall began in 1841. The plans for the construction were drawn up by the Mecklenburg-Strelitz state architect Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel. The town hall is located at the market.

The reigning Duke Adolf Friedrich III. founded the city of Neustrelitz in 1733. In 1755, a baroque half-timbered building was purchased as the town hall to take care of the town's business. However, this was demolished in the 19th century and a second town hall building was erected by 1843 on the market square of the former royal seat.
Facing the market square, the town hall presents itself as a two-storey, three-part rendered building in the style of classicism. In the central avant-corps there are round-arched arcades. The house is structured by vertical pillars as pilasters and was rebuilt unchanged after a fire at the end of the 19th century and extensively renovated in the years 2006 to 2008. Together with the town church and other buildings, it is part of the ensemble of the baroque, newly designed market square.
