The neo-Gothic castle church was built between 1855 and 1859 by Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel and is one of his major works in Neustrelitz (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern).

The Neustrelitz Castle Church was built from yellow brick between 1855 and 1859 and consecrated in August 1859. It is a single-nave hall building with a cross-shaped floor plan and twelve striking, slender towers. Their number is meant to commemorate the 12 apostles.

The facade of the central front is bordered by two high towers. A rose window is attached to the west facade, flanked on the right and left by the four evangelists. The pulpit has essentially been preserved, but without the earlier six niche figures. Only the canteen has survived from the altar. The earlier epitaph painting is now in the Neustrelitz Museum.

Worth seeing are the polychrome stained glass windows with different motifs. The baptismal font comes from Duke Georg and his wife Grand Duchess Katharina, the silver crucifix from Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm II and Duchess Caroline of Mecklenburg. The organ was built by the organ builder Grüneberg, has 16 registers, two manuals and an organ pedal. She is unplayable today.

The castle church no longer serves as a church. It is owned by the city of Neustrelitz and is primarily used for exhibitions and concerts. In the church there is a gallery of figurative sculpture. Some of the exhibits come from important artists, but also from young, up-and-coming artists.
