In 1252, the first mention of a Hube in Gettenbach was made as the official castle of a mounted forester of the Hohenstaufen Imperial Forest... Today, foresters drive Lada or Suzuki and live in good middle-class conditions... times are changing..🥴

The castle was built in 1848 as a hunting lodge for the Büdingen-Ysenburg princely family on an abandoned industrial site (iron hammer, glass factory, paper mill). Uphill, next to the castle, there used to be a vineyard up to the Wetzenstein, from which today only the beginnings of terraced steps can be seen. Gettenbach Castle has an eventful history. During the Second World War it was temporarily used as a military hospital, and then for a short time as a branch of the Frankfurt University Hospital. The castle and its surroundings have been used as a care facility for many years.
