The Neptune Fountain at the end of the Lower Market (city parquet) was created in 1755 by court sculptor Johann Gabriel Räntz (1697–1776). The sandstone figure of the god of the sea and waters on the four-sided fountain pillar holds - as is customary elsewhere - the trident as a weapon with which he could trigger earthquakes. A dolphin accompanies him at his feet. This fountain is the historically youngest of the three market fountains. It replaced an older fountain in front of the Hospital Church and was built on the site of the demolished brewery.
