After climbing through the historic old town, you reach the highest point, the Cathedral Square (Plaça de la Catedral). Here, the “Mirador del Rey Jaume I” viewing point invites you to take a short break and enjoy a breathtaking view of the city and its surroundings. In addition to the cathedral, whose construction began in the 14th century and was completed in the 18th century and which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, this square is home to the Diocesan Museum, the Archaeological Museum (it is located in the former seat of the autonomous island administration, the “Universitat”, which was abolished in the 18th century), the “Casa de la Curia”, former seat of the Curia, which now houses the Madina Yabisa Interpretation Centre, and the Bishop's Palace.
