This building was dedicated as a synagogue in 1840. Before the end of 1941, all Jews from Weesp were deported (see also the stumbling blocks). The vast majority of them perished in concentration camps. The synagogue was plundered, only the Holy Ark survived intact.
In the years that followed, the synagogue was used for other purposes. In April 1997 the building was reopened as a synagogue.

Hiking
Weesp used to have a wealthy Jewish community that was hit hard by the Second World War. Many Jews were deported and few returned. The Synagogue is a tangible reminder of this. “After the war, the Synagogue was used as a garage for a long time, but at the initiative of the community it has been renovated and is now used as a synagogue again.”
