Basel train station since 1845
In the 19th century, transport and industrialization changed Basel: in 1832, a steamship docked here for the first time. Eight years later, the first railway in Switzerland ran on the Saint-Louis–Basel route, for which a train station was opened within the city walls in 1845. Soon, trains were running daily to Paris and Frankfurt.
