The building was built in 1730/31 as a prayer hall for the "Brotherhood of the Sorrowful Mother of God under the Cross" according to plans by Franz Moritz von Loew. By decree of the Bavarian Elector Max IV Joseph, who later became the first Bavarian king, the provincial library was set up there in 1803. The wonderful equipment for this comes from the former imperial monastery in Kaisheim and had to be slightly adapted for installation here. The building can only be visited as part of a guided tour!
