Very nice, hidden ruin, which you should let in on you. A Roman burgus and a tower hill are also nearby.

Remains of the old Neunburg castle, romantically hidden on a hill in the forest. Wonderful to look at and discover.

By chance you will hardly discover this magical place, but the way there is quite well signposted.

Unfortunately, the ruins have been smeared with graffiti.

The Old Castle can be easily combined with the Silbersee for a hike.

When it is wet, the ascent to the castle is a slippery, dangerous undertaking.
The castle was probably built towards the end of the 10th century. The impressive neck ditch, which was later partially bricked, goes back to this first defense system.

In winter with snow or rain it is not advisable to climb the steep castle hill to see the remains of the "old castle".
According to Wikipedia, it is believed to have been built towards the end of the 10th century.

The castle was probably built towards the end of the 10th century.
In 1007 a document from Heinrich II called a bower of his castle "Nouumburg".
In 1197 Heinrich VI. the office of Neuburg with the castle as a fief to his marshal Heinrich von Kalden (Pappenheim), whose line probably provided the burgraves of Neuburg before that.

During the "Meraner Feud" (1246/47) the Wittelsbacher conquered the fortress, which was destroyed again in 1386 in Bavaria's war against the Rhine Confederation.
In 1818 the old castle came as a gift from the Bavarian king to the city of Neuburg, which in return had to undertake to preserve the monument.
