In a devastating fire in 1598, the original cathedral of the city of Salzburg was so badly damaged that it decided to build a new building. After a construction period of 14 years, the new cathedral was inaugurated in 1628. Master builder was the Italian Santino Somari, who created a unique work of baroque architecture here.
