In the Geomuseum Faxe we take you on a journey through time, 63 million years into the past. At that time, all of Denmark was covered by sea and where Faxe is today, a lush coral reef grew. The reef was home to a wide variety of creatures. Snails, crabs, clams, and sea urchins inhabited its surface, and sharks, nautiloids, and crocodiles circled overhead.

The Faxe Geomuseum is located right on the edge of the Faxe limestone quarry. In the museum you can explore the time when the coral reef was alive in the new permanent exhibition 'Denmark's fossil coral reef'. The newly designed exhibition shows the best fossils from the quarry.

Go fossil-hunting at Faxe Limestone Quarry and find 63-million-year-old fossils from when Denmark was sea-covered. You can borrow hammers and chisels from Geomuseum Faxe.
