    KKL Lucerne Concert Hall
    History 1998-today
On August 18, 1998, the concert hall was opened with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Lucerne Trumpet Ensemble and the then Federal President Flavio Cotti. The following day, the opening concert of the International Music Festival Lucerne (now Lucerne Festival) took place with conductor Claudio Abado and the Berlin Philharmonic. Wings A and B were also opened in March 2000 and the Lucerne Art Museum in June. The RED and World Café restaurants followed in 2004. In 2016 - or more than 17 years after opening - the KKL Lucerne exceeded the billion mark for the first time in terms of added value. Every year, the KKL Lucerne generates around 75 million Swiss francs in added value for the city and the Lucerne region, as calculated by the University of St. Gallen in the 2011 value creation study. Philipp Keller has been CEO of KKL Lucerne Management AG since 2017. The current president of the sponsoring foundation, Markus Moll, and the chairman of the board of directors, Felix Howald, have both been in office since 2019. The restaurants Le Piaf and Lucide were opened in 2020. The Lucide restaurant has been awarded 16 Gault Millau points and a Michelin star. The corona pandemic has hit the KKL Luzern hard. For almost two years, events have only been possible to a limited extent or not at all. The catering industry has had to be closed partially or completely again and again. In February 2022, almost all measures will be lifted and operations can resume in all business areas. The year 2023, the year of the 25th anniversary, will be the first in which full operations resumed and a very successful result was achieved.

Striking building right next to the Lucerne harbor basin. Its sweeping roof is impressive. Over 500 events take place here every year. The KKL has become an integral part of Lucerne.
