After prospecting, mining in the pits south and south-east of Böllenborn began in 1764 by the Schönau ironworks. After several interruptions, ore mining ended in 1785. The iron ore mined was transported to Schönau and smelted there (LGB, 2005: pp. 56/57).
Saarpfalz-Erzbergbau AG. started the attempt to put the mines around Böllenborn back into operation in 1937. However, the attempt was unsuccessful, which is why the mines were shut down again."
