The forester Bartram from Donnershagen died here on August 3rd, 1904. When the road surface was silted up, water was brought in in slurry tanks. Bartram noticed that a stake had loosened and the water threatened to leak. To prevent this, he boldly hit the stake with the butt of the rifle. The shot released from the rifle killed the forester. The otherwise thoughtful man, in order to avert greater damage, had forgotten that the rifle was loaded.

Bartram took over the newly created Donnershagen forest district in 1902 and lived in Eschershausen near Uslar. The Hildesheim government had ordered the construction of a new forester's farm for him on the slope of the Ital, which was built in 1904. Unfortunately, Bartram was unable to move due to his fatal accident in August 1904.
