Windsor Castle is the largest continuously inhabited castle in the world. The origins of Windsor Castle lie around 1078 in the time of William the Conqueror. Over the centuries, the original wooden buildings became the stone structure that was constantly enlarged. Under Charles II, the castle was converted into a residential castle. For 900 years, the castle has been the summer residence of the royal family. When the Queen is at Windsor, the royal flag blows from the Round Tower. The castle is owned by the crown of the entire Windsor estate and is administered by the royal household.
