Baden Revolution Sculpture by Peter Lenk, Schopfheim

When the train of the revolutionary Friedrich Hecker with 800 volunteers came to the city on April 18, 1848, the townspeople were anything but enthusiastic.Their leader, Hecker, gave a speech on the town hall balcony to spur the revolutionary zeal of the residents.
Just two citizens followed the insurgents. "The Schopfheim moneybags," Struve later recalled, "were by no means inclined to sacrifice part of their property, let alone a drop of their precious blood, to the cause of the people."Unveiling in Schopfheim
Providing such a city with a monument to the Baden Revolution is evidence of, one might say, downright devilish cunning....

A huge work of art on the market square is reminiscent of the small Baden revolution from 1848, which only two citizens and a dog from Schopfheim joined.
