In the 13th century, knight Amelis was loaned to Bunnik by the deanery of Oudmunster. In Latin he was called Amelis de Insula, which means Amelis uit de Weerd. In 1227 he is listed among the ministerials of Bishop Otto van Lippe of Utrecht.
Later this inn was divided into two parts, Oud-Amelisweerd and Nieuw-Amelisweerd or Groenewoude.

Impressive country house along the Kromme Rijn with a beautiful history. Nowadays you can also have a bite to eat and something to drink (also tea and coffee to take away).
