The two-story half-hipped roof building was originally built as a former middle mill. The lintel at the rear of the building bears the inscription “1797”; However, it is said to have housed the municipal bathhouse as early as the 16th and 17th centuries.

The building is the only one of several mill buildings built on this site that has been preserved. The middle mill, along with the other mills, was powered by the stream, which was originally open and now built under the street. It rises at the Liebfrauensee at the Bad Kissinger Marienkapelle and flows into the Bad Kissinger Rose Garden. The mill wheel of the Mittelmühle was located at the height of the stream.

The wall painting on the side of the building facing the town hall square was created by Albert Helm in 1961 and refers to the incorrect name of the property as a “guild house”. Today it houses the Bad Kissingen city library.
