In the Venn, we encounter blueberries and bog bilberries while hiking. Amateurs often confuse the two berries.

The blueberry has smaller, dark blue berries with red flesh and finely serrated greenish leaves.

The bog bilberry bears larger fruits with light-colored flesh and smooth-edged, silvery shimmering leaves. The name "Rauschbeere" (intoxicating berry) goes back to the earlier notion of intoxication-like complaints after consumption.

Blueberries and cloudberries are widespread on the boggy soils of the moorland heath and lighter spruce forests. Blueberries can be recognized by their sharp-edged, evergreen branches and their dark blue berries with red-blue flesh.
