Relatively high, north of the old town center on a now unused cemetery, is the stately Sct. Nicolai Church. On the altar is a pompous altarpiece from 1642, a carving in a lush and powerful baroque style.
The pulpit is an early Renaissance work from 1565.visitsonderjylland.de/tourist/informationen/sct-nicolai-kirche-gdk609249

The brick building is located at the highest point of the city's oldest settlement center at the end of the Aabenraa Fjord. Construction began around 1250 at the latest. The elongated building is unusually low for a city church and gives the impression of a single-nave hall church. The north and south arms, which were built on in the Middle Ages, turned the building into a cruciform church (Wikipedia).
