Brundlund Castle is located in the Danish town of Aabenraa in southern Jutland. After Brundlund Castle served as an official residence until the 20th century, it has been extensively restored to house a publicly accessible art museum that exhibits Danish paintings and sculptures from the 19th century to the present day.

Brundlund Castle was built under the Danish Queen Margaret I from 1411 onwards, after she was able to add the former Apenrade to her domain.
The moated castle, which originally had a fortress-like character, served for centuries as the seat of the bailiff as well as the royal, ducal and municipal administration.
In the 16th century, the building was expanded into a castle in the Renaissance style. After the last resident left Brundlund Castle in 1996, the city of Aabenraa took it over and set up today's art museum in 1998.
The former castle mill with mill wheel - originally the castle's bridge tower - is now used as a café on summer weekends.

The castle and the gardens are located on an island, surrounded by a moat that is wide to the east and narrower to the west. The original character of the moated castle is still recognizable.

The castle building consists of a cuboid body flanked by towers on three sides; two of them house salons inside, the southwestern one serves as a stair tower. The gatehouse is attached to the east side of the building, which is connected to the forecourt on the "mainland" to the north via a dam with an avenue; one of the oldest surviving watermills in Denmark (around 1530) is located here.

The entire castle is largely devoid of architectural decoration; only the facades facing the landscaped garden are emphasized by a simple colonnade with Doric columns. Another major reconstruction took place at the beginning of the 19th century under C. F. Hansen, who partially remodeled the castle in a classicist style between 1805 and 1807. It has been preserved in this form to the present day, with a fundamental restoration taking place between 1983 and 1985.
