In 1439, Ayenwolde, then called "Aylinkwold", was first mentioned in documents. However, settlement probably took place much earlier.
There was a church in Ayenwolde from the earliest times. The church of "St. Mary Magdalene" in Ayenwolde was demolished in 1556, probably for cost reasons. The material obtained was used to repair the church in Hatshausen on Hohen Weg. The Ayenwold bell was also placed in the tower of the church in Hatshausen. From then on, the people of Ayenwold had to visit the church in Hatshausen.
Nevertheless, the residents held the place where they had once had their place of worship in honor and continued to bury the deceased there. Even in the last century, as monuments show, in individual cases Ayenwold residents were laid to rest here, where the church had already been torn down in 1556.At certain times you can drink coffee and eat delicious cake nearby.
