It happened on November 4th, 1805 in Mittenwald, when the nightmares of the Tyroleans became real and their border fortress Porta Claudia between Scharnitz and Mittenwald fell. French troops came via the mountain path now known as the Franzosensteig. The consequences were serious: the attack brought the Austrians to their knees during the Second Napoleonic War. It led to the occupation of Tyrol.

Steep ascent that stretches!
Not particularly difficult, but you can breathe with a 26 degree incline .... the ascent is a long one, as I said, but our 5 year old made it too :-)Then clamber about 1.5 further and off to Ederkanzel with a very friendly landlady!
