In 1746, Gödens came into the possession of the von Wedel family through marriage. In the 18th century, the main castle island was still surrounded by a wall that had two bastion-like projections facing the outer bailey in the northeast on which pavilions stood. In the 19th century, this wall and additions to the northeast wing were demolished. The counts of Gödens and Evenburg had a hereditary seat in the Prussian manor from December 5, 1867 until the revolution in 1918.[3] The castle, which is still inhabited by Count Wedel today, is managed by the Gödens Castle Cultural Heritage Foundation[4] and can only be partially visited during events, in particular during the country outing on the Pentecost weekend and the Christmas market on the first weekend in Advent. The castle park is accessible from Monday to Friday. The castle is a listed building. (Source Wikipedia)

Gödens Castle is a former chieftain's seat whose origins go back to the Middle Ages.

The impressive, baroque moated castle is only five kilometers as the crow flies from the Jade Bay and thus the North Sea. After a fire in 1669, Haro Burchard von Frydag rebuilt Gödens Castle in its current form shortly afterwards.
70 years later, the property became the property of the Barons von Wedel through marriage. Because of its impressive architecture in the Dutch Renaissance style and its valuable inventory, the property is now considered the most beautiful castle in East Frisia. Since 2010, the castle has been managed by the Gödens Castle Cultural Heritage Foundation. The preciously furnished baroque hall was renovated between 2010 and 2013. The castle is the center of an agricultural and forestry business. (Source: greetsiel.de/gehenswuerdigkeiten-2/schloss-goedens-sande)
