Visible from afar, the Church of St. Peter is located on a rocky plateau at the foot of the Kulmbach Plassenburg. It was built in 1439 as a late Gothic hall church on the foundations of a previous Romanesque church.
The tower clock is particularly interesting: if you read its face clockwise, you get the words “Betet” and “Wachet”.

The late Gothic Church of St. Petri is visible from afar on a rocky plateau in the eastern part of the city. There, on the southern slope of the castle hill, the predecessor was a fortified church from the 12th century. St. Petri, the stately, late Gothic hall church, was built from 1439 onwards. After falling victim to the Markgräfler war, it was rebuilt from 1559. In the years 1878 - 1880 the evangelical church got a new equipment in the neo-Gothic style. The church's namesake, the Apostle Peter, stands in the portal vestibule of the west tower. The church tower clock shows "Waket-Betet" instead of numbers.

The St. Petri Church - late Gothic hall church - has a very eventful history. It was first mentioned around 1174, in January 1430 it was destroyed for the first time by the Hussites, together with the city. The reconstruction began in 1439.

In 1553 - the church was converted into a fortified church during the Federal War - it was then destroyed again. It was only rebuilt six years later, and the tower was rebuilt in 1568.
