The provost church of St. Ludgerus in Billerbeck, commonly known as the Ludgerus Cathedral, is often referred to as a "cathedral," although it is not officially one, as it is neither a cathedral nor a bishop's seat. Nevertheless, the then Bishop of Münster, Hermann Jakob Dingelstad, bestowed this venerable title on the church when it was consecrated in 1898, and the striking, almost 100-meter-high towers that tower over Billerbeck underline this dignity.
