The old cemetery in Breisach is located between Kupfertorstraße and Muggensturmstraße. It was used as a cemetery between 1639 and 1858. Unfortunately, only a few tombstones from the 18th and 19th centuries have survived.

These include, for example, the resting places of the Catholic city priest Johann Baptist Hölzlin (1715-1818) and Pantaleon Rosmann (1776-1853) in front of the entrance to St. Joseph's Church. The latter was a great benefactor and the first honorary citizen of Breisach. A part of the old cemetery area has now been converted into building land.

St. Joseph's Church in the Old Cemetery is the former cemetery chapel. It was built in the 17th century, incorporating the old Swedish tower, and rebuilt between 1806 and 1817 after it was destroyed in 1793. The neo-Gothic winged altar dates from 1896, the colored glass mosaic windows were created by the Breisach painter Fritz Roth after the Second World War.
