There are a number of uninhabited islands in the middle of the Veerse Meer, the Middelplaten. A beautiful nature reserve that is known as an important breeding area for species such as Lapwing, Redshank and Avocet. The area is not allowed to be entered, but from time to time you can go on an excursion with the ranger.
