The walking path through the Broekelzen in Heuvelland offers a beautiful nature experience. The path leads you through a mixed spring forest with adjacent meadows and fields. In the wetter parts of the area you will find many marsh marigolds and slender primroses, while the drier parts are covered with wood anemones and wild hyacinths.

A large part of the path is constructed with wooden boardwalks, which makes walking through the marshy parts easier and protects the vulnerable vegetation. Along the way you will pass several pools and you have the opportunity to rest for a while in the wooden loungers that are strategically placed to enjoy the view.

The Broekelzenpad starts in the village of Westouter and is part of the Heuvelland walking network.

Approximately 18 ha in size, of which 2/3 open grasslands with wooded edges and pools, approximately a quarter spring forest and stream-accompanying forest (yes, it can be quite marshy there, but the boardwalks ensure that you can get through it largely dry-shod, even in your slippers) and the rest afforestation field.

The area has a very rich spring flowering of wood anemone and wild hyacinth. Wood loosestrife, marsh marigold, bacon root, broad helleborine, white clover sorrel, are some characteristic species.

In terms of fauna, there are deer, garden dormice, palmate newts, and 'the butterfly with the orange tail', the blackthorn page.
