Picturesque mountain lake with crystal clear water in a great mountain backdrop.

Lake Butzensee, crystal-clear and motionless – like a forgotten eye of the sky. Framed by stone and silence. The Mohnenfluh looms like an oversized guardian, but the lake remains unfazed. It knows no hurry, no noise. Only reflection. Here, time briefly holds its breath. Not a breath of wind ripples the water, no animal breaks the scene. Only the hiker – a shadow on the shore. And if you're brave enough, take off your shoes, dip your foot in, and feel it: the cold is real. And so is the moment.Lake Butzensee isn't a place to swim – it's a place to linger. One of those rare spots where you don't have to do anything but be. And perhaps, if you dare to be still enough, you'll even hear it: the murmuring of the stones, the silence of the mountains, and somewhere in between – your own heartbeat.

A wonderfully clear mountain lake that offers refreshment, especially on warm to hot hiking days.
If you take the circular hike to the Braunarlspitze counterclockwise, you can treat yourself to a little cooling off or simply a quiet moment of relaxation after several hours of hiking.
The water is easily accessible from all sides, so you can spread out and find your own quiet spot.
The stones along the shore are quite sharp. If you plan on dipping more than just your feet in the water, you might want to consider packing a pair of lightweight beach/bathing shoes.
The water is typically cold for a mountain lake, even on very hot summer days. However, I did see a "hardy" person swim in it for two minutes.
