Ehrenstein Castle is a renaissance castle worth seeing in Ohrdruf. In November 2013, a major fire destroyed around 16 years of work at the castle. The refurbishment had just been completed and the craftsmen were clearing frosty heights when two roofers with a burner tried to clear their frozen tools on a running board. Since then there are again scaffolding on the castle (as of 11/2017); Incidentally, the damage amounted to tens of millions.
