After the Thirty Years' War, many Huguenots from France were settled in Groß-Ziethen, who, as so-called religious refugees, found refuge in many places in Barnim or the Uckermark. Tobacco cultivation was introduced in the region in Groß Ziethen and Klein Ziethen from the 17th century and large quantities of tobacco were cultivated by the new colonists. Groß Ziethen has a beautiful and well-preserved village green, as well as a field stone church, which is a testament to the stone carving trade.
