The Sterntaler Filze is one of the Rosenheimer Stammbeckenmooren and was created when the Rosenheimer See silted up, which was formed after the retreat of the Inn glacier. In 2021 this area was included in the ranks of "Wetlands of International Importance". Unique flora and fauna grow in the moor landscape and the moor also serves as a habitat for many bird species. For example, black, brown, blue and robins live in the area, which is why it is also called "Vierkehlchenland".
