The mighty tower of St. Pankratius Church stands out strikingly from the red tiled roofs. Clearly dominated the building, which is located on a small hill in the old city center, the cityscape. On the foundations, which are built of sandstone blocks, rises the nave of broken stones. The St. Pankratius church is built in gothic style and has several smaller decorations, such as on the main portal: The door arch is richly decorated with carved ornaments.

According to tradition, St. Pancras was publicly executed at the end of the 3rd / beginning of the 4th century under Emperor Diocletian because of his Christian faith. The body of the martyr was buried on the Roman Via Aurelia - in the catacombs later named after him - under today's church "San Pancrazio". His feast day is on May 12th, he is one of the three so-called "ice saints" in popular piety, together with Servatius and Bonifatius (in some areas supplemented by "Cold Sophie" one day later).
