Lovers' Lane is a smooth paved trail that was supposedly used by soldiers based in the Presidio to meet their sweethearts. It crosses a bridge at its lowest point here and then climbs South-East to the Presidio Avenue Gate, all shaded with only two road crossings, here and before the end.

This path got its name during the early years when the enlisted soldiers had to walk the shortest way to the mission district where most of their families and loved ones lived, as it was sunnier and more comfortable.
