Saint Martin, to whom the church of Staufen is consecrated, is - next to Saint Nicholas - probably one of the most popular saints of all. The memorial day of the former officer in the Roman army is November 11th. On the night after the famous “coat sharing”, when he surrendered half his army cloak to a freezing beggar, Jesus Christ appears to him in a dream. He then converted to Christianity and was later elected Bishop of Tours (France) - initially against his will.

Many should have fond childhood memories of lantern handicrafts in kindergarten and elementary school, the evening lantern parade through the dark village / district - and of course of the delicious “Weckmann”.

The Catholic Church of St. Martin in Staufen is located on the southern outskirts of the village on a hill and is surrounded by a cemetery.

It was built in the years 1892/93 according to plans by the Giengen master builder Steiff in the neo-Gothic style on the foundations of an old church. This old church had to be demolished at that time due to disrepair.

A Romanesque leaf chalice capital, a plinth stone of a Corinthian column base, remains of a Gothic altar, parts of a wall painting and a pointed arch with the year 1618 were discovered in the new building.
