Historical background:

In 1941 the site was the site of a foreign labor camp for Italian workers. Construction work on the Neisse river bed and the Hirschfeld power plant; they are among the main areas of application.

In 1942 and 1943, the foreign labor camp was expanded to include numerous residential barracks and functional buildings to accommodate additional “Eastern workers”. A main reason for the further need for workers is the construction of the ballast in the Hirschfeld power plant.

Around 800 workers from different nations were housed in the foreign labor camp in 1944.

The former wash / toilet barrack is now the clubhouse of the allotment garden "Einheit" e.V. on the B99 district of Hirschfelde. It is still in its original condition, only the middle windows have been renewed. The barrack was part of the original camp for Italian foreign workers. At that time there were 4 other barracks around them, which also served to accommodate the workers.
