The Tyrolean pond can be found in the Frankfurt city forest between the Isenburger Schneise and Mörfelder Landstraße. The body of water, located at a height of 118 meters above sea level, was created in 1907 in order to allow main water to seep away and to promote the growth of trees that already lacked groundwater at that time. The stadium is next door, and the pond is frequented on match days. Since 2011, the Tyrolean pond has been “guarded” by two of Robert Gernhardt's green armadillos, who keep to the left and right of a wide staircase that leads up to the water from the east. They wear Tyrolean rifle costumes and are armed. Their counterpart on the west side is another, gold-shining mythical creature with a small flag in the paw on a sandstone column decorated with reliefs, which strongly reminds of a Roman Jupiter column.
