... and there are many things to discover in this nature reserve. 98 different bird species have been observed here, including osprey, tree hawk and kingfisher. In addition, many amphibians, grasshoppers, dragonflies, butterflies and beetle species. And bats. But only on the way, this one should not leave.

The Gehspitzweiher was built in the 18th century, when in the old Heegwald near Neu-Isenburg a local brick factory began to mine clay. In 1872 the company Philipp Holzmann acquired the clay pit. After the Second World War, the clay mining was replaced by the removal of gravel. In the 1960s, the groundwater level dropped further and further, only the pit floor remained water-covered. At the beginning of the 1970s, finally, the gravel quarrying was discontinued. Nature reserve is the pond and its surroundings since 1981.
