The Alvier seminar and holiday hotel is in a quiet, sunny and unique location at 1000m above sea level, high above the St. Gallen Rhine Valley, far away from annoying noise, hectic rush and stress. It lies on the flank of Gauschla and directly behind it in the Alvier chain is the 2343m Hohe Alvier, which gives the hotel its name.
In 1901/02 J.B. Angehrn build the Kurhaus. In 1934 the Kurhaus was bought by the Sterbekasse Cooperative of the Winterthur Health Care Association. 1951 Transfer to the health care cooperative of Winterthur.

Construction of the cable car, 1948 - 1952: spa and holiday operation for children and adults
1952 - 1974: Hotel Kurhaus Alvier with new building on the south track 1962-64 and new building on the east track (old spa building) 1977-78
1974 - 1986: Hotel Kurhaus Alvier and increased use for training purposes, 1981-82 conversion to a training center
1986 - 2005: Seminar and holiday hotel of KFW and Winterthur Insurance
2005 - today: Founding of Alvier AG, seminar center with hotel as a family business and acquisition of Winterthur Insurance
The Alvier cable car is one of the few private self-service cable cars built in Switzerland and it is a particular attraction for our guests.
The length of the cable car is 1234m, overcomes 304.5 meters in altitude and has a travel time of approx. 6 minutes. The speed is 4m / sec., I.e. approx. 14.4 km / h.
The Werdenberg / Sarganserland bus goes to the Oberschan Museum stop. From there it is about 2 minutes on foot to the valley station of the Alvier cable car. Or if you come by car, the hotel's own parking spaces are available free of charge at the valley station.
