The Adler Pharmacy was opened on March 16, 1909 by pharmacist Emil Kiewitt after the military hospital pharmacy had been closed. At that time, Mr. Kiewitt had to receive approval from the German Empire. At that time, every pharmacy was also obliged to have a cellar, as was common in Germany. For this reason, the Adler Apotheke still has a basement today, which is a rarity in Swakopmund buildings.
