    Hiking

Since the mid-19th century, redwoods in Central Europe have also been planted as (rare) park trees, mostly in spacious English landscaped gardens.
The cones of the giant sequoia trees open only after a forest fire. After many of the other competing plants are burned, the seeds can germinate undisturbed in the nutrient-rich ash layer. The giant sequoia can grow very old and grow enormously in width.

    - Perhaps this sequoia tree also comes from the famous Wilhelma seeds from 1864 when King Wilhelm had over 5,000 strong plants sown in Wilhelma. This amount was of course too big for the small area of Wilhelma, which is why the trees were distributed to the forestry departments in the country. A total of 200 sequoias from this first, so-called Wilhelma seed from 1864, still exist today between Lake Constance and Odenwald.

If you want to know exactly whether a sequoia tree comes from the Wilhelma breeding program, you can research it here: mbreg.de/wiki/index.php/Mapsuche_Deutschland
The location of the highlight is one of them.
