The church is a hall building with a richly structured facade in Münsterland baroque forms. The simple monastery building is attached to the side. The church was built with the support of Countess Charlotte Amalie of Limburg-Stirum from 1705 to 1708. Pastoral care was initially taken over by Franciscans from the Saxon Franciscan province (Saxonia), for whom Charlotte's son Otto Ernst Leopold donated the construction of a Franciscan residence at the church in 1719.
