Originally, this old part of the road was hidden in the Kinzigtalsperre. Discovered by chance during construction work in 2002, dug up conspicuously and positioned in front of the museum.

This is the original road surface, which was discovered in 2002 during the drainage of the Kinzig reservoir and transported here. The Via Regia has existed for more than 2,000 years and connects eight European countries over a length of 4,500 km. A significant part of the Via Regia is the trade route between Frankfurt am Main and Leipzig, which formed the great west-east axis of the German Empire for centuries.
