    A very beautiful castle!

Heidenreichstein Castle is known as the most beautiful moated castle in Austria. The oldest components form an irregular square courtyard. On the west side stands the mighty keep, around forty meters high and four meters thick walls.
The oldest part of the moated castle was built around 1160. To this day, the castle is entered via two drawbridges. The interior is also unique. In addition to a thousand-year-old tabletop, you can find chests and first boxes from the Gothic period, furnishings from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. This includes inlaid cabinets and tiled stoves that still work today.
Heidenreichstein Castle is the permanent residence of the Kinsky family and the seat of the administration of Kinsky's forest and pond management. In 2003, son Peter took over the farm, which consists of forestry, pond management, hunting, agricultural land and the castle museum.

Heidenreichstein Castle is partially open to the public. It has been privately owned by the Kinsky family since 1961 and is still inhabited. Guided tours are offered, during which you can also look at some of the rooms inside the castle. The castle, like the whole town, owes its name to one of the first burgraves, who was called Heidenreich. The moated castle, the oldest part of which dates back to the second half of the 12th century, is considered a landmark of the town of 3,800 inhabitants.
