Hiking Highlight
The old Gauss tower was built in 1911 and was a popular destination.
Over the years, basalt mining was also carried out directly below the tower. As a result, the first cracks appeared on the tower as early as the 1950s.
In 1963 the tower collapsed due to the loosening of the soil.
After a judgment of the OLG Celle, the basalt works was obliged to build a new building. The new Gauss tower was completed in 1964.

A special attraction for hikers is the Gauss Tower dar. The observation deck or the café can be rented, but there are no regular opening times to my knowledge.
The area around the Hohe Hagen is ideal for hiking and cycling - in winter for sledding. A geology and mining trail shows not only cultural and natural monuments but also relics from mining activity.

The long crack in the concrete arose immediately after concrete pouring. He was rated as statically harmless.

Unfortunately there is no longer any location there. I remember that as a child I was once on the tower, a fantastic view, unfortunately now closed.
I can't say whether the platform is still open and when.

The new Gauss Tower is not really pretty, but it is very present as a landmark.
I always like to incorporate it into my tours.
