Well known beyond the borders of Bochum is the green conveyor framework. The largest exhibit of the German Mining Museum came to Bochum in 1973 and has since shaped the city skyline.

Until then, the scaffolding was still in its original location, above the central shaft of the mine Germania in Dortmund-Marten.

Designed by the renowned industrial architects Fritz Schupp and Martin Kremmer, the full-walled Doppelbockgerüst was built in 1943/44. It was at that time with a weight of 650 t, a height of 71.4 m and a diameter of the pulleys of 8 m as the world's largest scaffolding and was one of the most modern and most powerful conveyors of the German coal industry, which was still in operation until 1971.

Accompanied by great media interest, the scaffolding was disassembled after its decommissioning in individual parts with a weight of up to 30 t and brought with special transporters to Bochum and mounted there in weeks of work.

Today, visitors can drive into the viewing mine via the elevator and reach the viewing platform at lofty heights. Above the rooftops of the city, the view extends far beyond the borders of Bochum.
