At the beginning of the year 1900, the old wooden church, the church from 1826, was demolished to make way for a larger sanctuary, the present church from 1902.
All usable wood was used for the new church. There were plans to erect a stone church in accordance with the recommendations of the authorities. However, for poor communities, wooden churches could be considered appropriate. The newly built church in Jokkmokk became the model for the wooden church in Arvidsjaur.
