You can't always experience this spectacle. Only melting snow or heavy rain allows the water “a da Dauchschtoi,” as the locals call the place, to gush or shoot out of the slope and splash over the limestone tuff stones (hence “Dauchschtoi”).

The melt and rain water seeps through the karstified limestone of the Monkberg until it hits the marl layers of the White Jura Alpha, which stop the water and carry it further. It then emerges at the valley section of the Lower Halde as a so-called layer spring and deposits the lime that comes out of the water connection as tuff.
