Best Hikes to Hohenringingen Castle Ruins

Tips

  • The ruin Hohenringingen is located on the almost 880 meters high Nähberg. The keep was built in the 11th century and is 15 meters high. The ascent to the tower is worth it: from the top you have a nice view and in vain it is still. Next to the tower you will find a barbecue area.

    Ruin Hohenringingen (Nähberg)
The ruin Hohenringingen, also called Nähburg, is a castle ruin on the Nähberg in Ringingen. The hilltop castle was first mentioned in 1180 under Knights Dietrich and Otto von Ringingen. In the 15th century, the castle fell into disrepair after being destroyed and was referred to as "Burgstall" in 1508. The restoration of the ruins began in 1972 during a local land consolidation. Of the former square castle complex, which had a keep, other buildings, an outer bailey, a moat, a ring wall and ramparts, the fully restored and accessible keep and parts of the ring wall have been preserved.

The short but steep climb is worth it. From the top of the tower there is a wonderful view of the colorful fields around the Kornbühl. Nice barbecue area right next to the tower.
